Technical: Storage

Bio-Oil contains Vitamin A, which in its pure form is photosensitive. However, since the concentration of Vitamin A contained in Bio-Oil’s formulation is sufficiently low so as not to render the formulation as ‘light-sensitive’, it is safe for Bio-Oil to be supplied and stored in a clear plastic bottle.

Nevertheless, Bio-Oil (like any other skincare product) should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Expiry date

Union-Swiss follows the 6th Amendment to the European regulations on the usage of best-before dates.  As Bio-Oil will not expire within 30 months after manufacture, under reasonable storage conditions, a best-before date is not printed on the packaging.

Bio-Oil is preservative free
Bio-Oil contains no preservatives. In order for microbes (bacteria, fungi and moulds) to survive and proliferate, they require the presence of water (or water vapour) and, in most cases, oxygen.

Bio-Oil is anhydrous (no water present) and therefore preservatives are unnecessary as it is very difficult, if not impossible, for microbes to develop in this environment.
